Death and Legacy
Jackie Robinson's death was on October 24, 1972. He died in Stamford, Connecticut. Sadly, his demise was caused by medical issues. Despite his active lifestyle, Jackie suffered from heart disease and and diabetes. Jackie Robinson recieved many honors. For example, Jackie had his number, 42, retired by all of the MLB 50 years after he became the first black player. This is an extemely high honor. He was also inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame.
Jackie Robinson had an inspiring legacy, both in baseball and outside baseball. In baseball, he set the stage for other African-American baseball players. He even had a song based on him. Outside of baseball, Jackie's actions contributed to the stop of segregation. After his demise, Robinson's wife founded the Jackie Robinson Foundation.
The Jackie Robinson Foundation is an organization that gives scholarships to minority children. It is a non-profit organization. It also preserves the legacy of Jackie Robinson. Since its creation, 1,200 people have received scholarships. It also runs education and leadership development programs.
