Process Paper
I selected my topic as I was scanning the NHD packet. They had numerous ideas to choose from, and one of them sparked my interest. I selected the topic of Jackie Robinson’s breaking of the baseball color barrier. The topic intrigued me because I am fond of the sport of baseball.
I started looking up sources on the internet that Google provided. I looked up a plethora of websites, but only some of them contained valid information. I took the most crucial information and put it on my note cards. I constantly referred to my notecards so the information would always be ripe in my head.
I chose my project category from experience from the previous history fair. I discovered that making a website was fun last year and decided to create one again this year. I used Weebly’s accessible and affordable website creator. I took pictures from Google and other sites. I used videos from YouTube, in which I easily obtained through Weebly.
As for the written portion, most of my information came from my note cards. I also used other websites that I discovered for additional information. I put specific information on the corresponding pages, and I also put them in sequential order. I explained all of my information in detail. That way, the reader could comprehend the information I am conveying to them.
I also chose my topic because it relates to the NHD theme. The NHD theme is a turning point in history. A turning point in history is a point in history where a decisive change takes place. My topic relates to the NHD theme in two ways. It is a turning point in baseball history and it is a turning point in segregation history.
My topic was a turning point in baseball history because Jackie Robinson was the first African-American baseball player. It is also a turning point because it opened the way for a new era of baseball players. Jackie Robinson did not have to try to get in the MLB, but because he did, he broke the color barrier. That proves that my topic was a decisive point in sport history.
My topic was a turning point in segregation history because it reduced the limitations on what African-Americans could do. It also helped end segregation all together. Many people
supported the end of segregation after Jackie Robinson became famous in baseball. They could have still not accepted African-Americans as equals, in spite of Jackie’s fame, but they decided to realize that segregation was wrong. This proves my topic was decisive in American history.
